| The aim of this paper is to build some teaching and learning strategies which can advance the development of adult metalearning ability and make adults to learn to study to meet the requirements of the developments of the modern society and individuals by analyzing the characteristics, structure, affecting factors of adult metalearning ability, and so on.To achieve the aim, this article is started by discussing the importance of "learn to study" to seek the nature of education, and lost humanity, then the topic of it is educed ?research on adult metalearning ability and teaching-learning strategies of its development.The article is centered on adult metalearning ability and teaching-learning strategies of its development, and consisted of four parts.Part one, to explain the meaning, characteristics, and structure of adult metalearning ability and this is the base of building teaching and learning strategies.Firstly, to analyze the foundation of adult metalearning ability based on three aspects梙istory, philosophy, and psychology and the meaning of it followed by the predecessors. In this article, adult metalearning ability is defined as adult learners act on themselves by selfæ¢wareness, including understanding and applying the rules, strategies, and affecting factors of study, valuing and controlling the process of study, optimizing andadjusting the attitude of study, to improve the quality of study. Adult metalearning ability梥ome related personal characteristics come into being in the process of it.Secondly, to differentiate three conceptions brieflyæ¢dult learning, adult metalearning, adult metacognition, and adult metalearning alility because they are so like as to be often confused.Plan, self-determination, process, self-control, self-reflection are the basic characteristics of adult metalearning. They are seen obviously on the adult learners who have better metalearning abilities. In this article, after synthesizing all the former researches on it, adult metalearning ability is thought to include the following meanings: it is not one simple ability but integration of multifarious ones; self-control is the most primary factor; self-design, application of the strategies, self-reflection, and adjustment on the attitude are also necessary.The development of adult metalearning ability is different from that of the adolescent, and it has its special developing rule. It changes with the age; its whole level is higher than that of the adolescent. It may be almost self-control and automation.Part two, to analyze the value orientation of adult metalearning ability to adult learning based on three aspects: society, adult teaching and learning, adult individual, to emphasize the importance of research on it.Today, the quantity of the multifarious information is increasing greatly; the structures of industry, employment and occupation are all changing greatly. In a word, the society is changing faster and faster. In this surroundings, the adult must improve the ability of metalearning, optimize the construction of their quality, otherwise they will be washed out from the society.As a result of a good many subjective and objective factors, adult teaching and learning has developed badly in both theory and practice. To conquer the shortcomings of the traditional model, and construct modern concept, improve the quality, eradicate the credit crisis of adult teaching and learning, it is required to pay more attention to the adult learner andcultivate adult metalearning ability.On account of the dissimilation and the loss of nature of education, someone sighs with feeling that "human" is forgotten in today's education, and "student" is ignored in teaching and learning. But in the metalearning course, the adult can sense that himself is just the manager.
