The study is on the background of the project of Environmental Education Initiative which is propelled by the Ministry of Education, WWF and BP. According to the practice of environmental education of elementary school in Fujian Province which is developed by the Center of Environmental Education of Fujian Normal University. The study explores the environmental education of elementary school for Sustainability from the theory and practice.The traditional environmental education is environmental protective education on cognitive facet. But the project of Environmental Education Initiative raises it to a higher level, which faces the sustainable development. So the idea it advocates is not simply about the construction of campus on hard environment.(such as the arrangement of campus and making school green etc.) It enforces the permeation of the idea of the sustainable development. That is transformation of the teaching method of teachers and the learning method of students. From the teaching method, it advocates inquiring learning; As concerned as the model of curriculum designing, it is a multi-facets climbing curriculum designing; From the strategy of implementing, which is in the base of not increasing current burden of curricula, carrying out discipline permeating. It has embodied the essential idea of modern education amply, which is the trend of development of future education.
