To train students' ability of exploration is regarded as the key target of scientific courses in the new round of reform of elementary educational courses. For this reason, I study the exploratory teaching in geographical class.The main methods used in the course of study are investigation and experiment. Investigation has shown that nowadays teaching-centered pattern is still the main method used in geographical classroom. Students play the roles of outside stimuli with which teacher supply them and passive acceptors in the course of teaching. As a result, it is difficult for students to give free rein to their initiative and enthusiasm. Having thoroughly studied some literatures in and out of China, such as exploratory teaching theory and methods of educational study and so on, I expounded exploratory teaching theory. In view of existing abuse in geographical teaching, I composed exploratory teaching tactics and procedure which are fit for classroom teaching. The following are four teaching tactics formed in this study: 1. To be guided by aims and to create situation; 2. To explore on one's own and learn together; 3. To practise flexibly, sum up and arrange. 4. To get in touch with reality and study for the purpose of application. In the course of experimental study, I adopted "Z" TEST to test the students' marks. Meanwhile, the students' interests of geographical learning and principal part of the students in geopraphical teaching have been deeply investigated.It is discovered that thanks to exploratory pattern in geographical teaching, there is a distinct improvement in the following aspects of the students' geographical learning: the results of the students' geographical study; the interest of geographical study; the students' ability, especially the creative ability and so on.
