EDM (Education Degree of Master), which is the professional degree of specific education, mainly cultivates the top talents in the areas of elementary teaching and management. The new round course reform in the elementary education, which is being deeply implemented in our country, not only puts forward more demands for teachers, but also imposes new challenge on EDM postgraduates. EDM aims to develop teachers with more adaptability on course reform, better to serve the elementary education, consequently, effectively promote the reform and development on elementary education. At present, this task is greatly concerned by the EDM course setup. Four parts are included in this thesis.The first part of this thesis is about the elaboration of EDM setup and its importance, in which the purpose, nature and significance of EDM to promote the quality-education, advance instructor's level of professionalization and development would be introduced.The second part is about the cultivation of EDM postgraduates and the challenge of EDM course setup, which is started with the transition of course function, adjustment of course structure, reform of course content, improvement of course implement, reform of course evaluation and course management regulation; and the challenge of teachers from elementary school to university is also analyzed. The analysis indicates the content above also puts forward new demand towards EDM postgraduate education and related course setup, which, to be more specific, requires the conception of EDM course setup, EDM course structure and content, originality of EDM course implement and establishment of developmentary course evaluation system renewed and reformed.The third part of this thesis discusses the current situation and analysis of EDM course setup. Chinese EDM and its features of trans-discipline, practicality, scientific research and education are analyzed, which, with the reference of EDM course setup in USA, Britain and Hong Kong area, is exemplified on Northwest Normal University. Simultaneously, the demand of students, their tutors and teachers towards currentEDM course situation is got to known from the questionnaires of course structure, teaching methods and thesis writing. Some problems in the current EDM course setup are revealed from the analysis, such as inappropriate portion between the education course and subject course. The cases in point are as follows: the theoretical courses are offered more than the practical skill courses; the cross-discipline courses are installed inadequately; foreign language courses occupy over-loaded portion but lack of applicability; some misled areas in course study and thesis writing have existence.The fourth part is about the proposition of EDM course setup. The EDM course setup should obey the principles of course target professionalizaiton, course structure systematization, and scientific course content. Meanwhile, EDM course setup should also renew the educational conception, present the requirement of new course content and structure, meet the demand of the new course teaching implement and establish the new course evaluation system.
