With the advancement of the curriculum reform in regular high school, electivecourses of the high school have drawn growing attention nationwide. Domesticresearchers are devoted to conducting on-the-spot surveys on their implementation inhigh schools across the country. At present, the new curriculum system has beenintroduced nationwide and carried out vigorously. Despite some positive results, manyproblems remain to be solved, including the misunderstanding of the new curriculumand deviation of act during its implementation, etc. Especially weak area school isfacing severe challenges. A careful review of the problems emerging during theimplementation of elective courses in high school is practically significant to thepromotion of the new curriculum reform.This study is based on the new curriculum reform, in order to study the weak areaschool elective course condition as the starting point, with the elective courses in aregular high school in Zhangzhou city of Fujian province as the research object.Methods like literature analysis, questionnaire, and interview are integrated in theresearch on the setup and implementation of the elective courses in regular highschool. Through the discussion on the problems existing in their practicalimplementation process, we aim at analyzing their causes, thus putting forward usefuladvices.The survey has revealed the following problems during the practicalimplementation process in regular high school: Students’ and teachers’ weakawareness of the new curriculum and the lack of an overall understanding of theelective courses; the scarcity of educational resources including financial resources,material resources and human resources; imperfect management and unsoundmanagement mechanism in school; imperfect elective system;unreasonable class hour arrangement; imperfect educational evaluation mechanism; the domination ofexamination-oriented evaluation concept and unreasonable educational evaluationmode.Finally, this study puts forward the following suggestions: enhance the awarenessof the new curriculum and improve teaching quality; increase the investment ineducation and optimize the allocation of resources; strengthen the management andimprove the system for electing courses; change the evaluation mode and promote thereform of college entrance examination.
