We have stepped into an "information society" or "knowledge economy society". To make the young generation live in the future successfully, education should let them learn "how to know, how to do, how to live together and how to be". Cooperative learning (CL) as a successful teaching tactic, has been proved to involve the students more actively in the learning process, and develop their critical thinking skills, social interaction skills and practical problem-solving abilities. It has become more and more widely used in many countries and areas, and it has the studying value for our nation's physics education reformation. The first part of this thesis sets forth the history and definition of CL, and analyzes its basic theory and elements. CL is a teaching tactic that organizes the students to study in group. It's directed by social psychology, learning psychology and constructivism theory. A successful CL should consist of 5 elements: positive interdependence, face-to-face promotive interaction, individual and group accountability, inter- personal skills and group procession. The second part discusses the necessity and aim of CL in high school physics teaching. Based on the intentions of new curriculum reformation and current shortages of high school physics teaching, we should use CL to enhance the students' cognitive level, to provide them with solid social support, and to cultivate their interaction skills. The third part analyzes how to use CL in high school physics teaching. Through studying the principles, flows and evaluation system of it, the article gives specific practical examples in high school physics teaching such as cooper-answering-exercises, cooper-reviewing, group-investigation, and group-experiments. It also explores the designing of a CL forum on net.The last part makes a conclusion of Cl in high school physics teaching.
