Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) is a new language teaching approach developed from the theory of communicative language teaching in the 1980s, taking the learners' desire of accomplishing some specific tasks as the motivation of their further language learning, the process of doing things by using the language they have learned as that of their fulfilling the tasks and the positive results of the display of the tasks as the efficiency of language teaching. So TBLT is considered as the major mechanism of the implementation of the two English Curriculum Criterions. But as we know, TBLT is taking shape in the background of teaching English as the second language. Therefore, an extensive application of TBLT to the English teaching in our country still needs a lot of work to do because of the lack of the atmosphere and surroundings of the target language. And there are many problems that have appeared in the probation and the practice of TBLT in English teaching of the elementary education in our country, such as the overflows and the extremes of tasks, the gaps of teachers, students and language teachingconditions in different schools and so on. That is why I think it quite necessary to do some researches on the application of TBLT to English teaching of the elementary education in our country.In view of the problems mentioned above, some strategies are put forward in my thesis, such as the transition of the teaching concepts, the construction of the English teaching materials, the development of the English teachers' special capabilities, the building of the evaluation system of reflecting the students' dynamic learning process, and the construction of the models of TBLT with China's characteristics.This thesis consists of five chapters:Chapter One is a brief introduction about the importance and necessity in the application of TBLT to the English teaching of the elementary education in our country.Chapter Two is about the background of the appearance of TBLT, the process of its development, its basic features and its current research situations and developing trends of the TBLT researches in foreign countries, that is, a comprehensive analyses of the TBLT theory for the preparation of the following researches.Chapter Three concentrates on the analyses and researches on the adaptabilities of the application of TBLT to the English teaching of the elementary education in our country.Chapter Four is to put forward some strategies to the problems including the transition of the teaching concepts, the construction of the English teaching materials, the development of the English teachers' special capabilities, the building of the evaluation system of reflecting the students' dynamic learning process, and the construction of the models of TBLT with our China's characteristics.Chapter Five concludes the whole thesis by strengthening the importance and necessity of combining TBLT with the specific situations in different primary and secondary schools in our country or finding the exact junctures between the two for the purpose of putting into a better effect the two English Curriculum Criterions and gradually forming the TBLT approach with China's characteristics.
