Evaluation on Chinese learning is of great importance for Chinese course to be carried out effectively and for teaching and learning process of Chinese to be supervised. Whether the new system of evaluation can be effective is directly related to the success or failure of the reform of Chinese course. New Chinese course emphasizes that multi-evaluation has been promoted. The formative evaluation has to be used together with summative evaluation and quantitative evaluation together with qualitative evaluation. What's more, portfolio assessment is advocated. I believe that portfolio assessment of Chinese learning has feasibility on background of the new courses reform, and it also has a good prospect because it corresponds to the needs of the trends of multi-evaluation, the characteristics of Chinese course and the needs of students' initiative development .The use of portfolio assessment is a great progress for the theories of our Chinese evaluation and the methods of Chinese evaluation.Because the portfolio assessment is in the trial period in our country, its effect is not certain. The primary school and mid-school Chinese teachers are generally unfamiliar with the new method of evaluation introduced from foreign countries. Many Chinese teachers have been accustomed to traditional evaluations and don't know how to face the new one. Some teachers have tried to create portfolio but fell into dire straits during their practice. Moreover, we only own very small works on portfolio assessment that can integrate the characteristics of Chinese course with the facts of students' study nowadays . All these hold back the potential advantages and functions of the portfolio assessment. Thus, we are now under the necessity of giving better play to its functions in evaluation of Chinese course. First, we'll have to understand the portfolio assessment of Chinese learning and make good use of it. Then, we'll find good examples and learn from others' experiences. Lastly, solve the problems and remedy the defects in the practices of evaluation.This article sticks to our national education policies and criterions ofChinese course and is based on the reform of compulsory education on Chinese course. Here I make a thorough inquiry into the feasibilities and the ways to operate and use of the portfolio assessment, and advance my thoughts and advice in accordance with the main problems during implement. It can be said that this article has a high theoretical value and practical meaning.
