Elementary education curriculum reform of a new turn is developing around the country. The new curriculum advocated a kind of research method on study which emphasize observation, investigation and experiment. The biology experiment is the main content of this research method. It is not only the process but also the method. It has unique effect on the development of creative thinking and cultivation of creative ability for teenagers. The research of biology experiment about middle school was few in Gansu Province. We haven't seen such research was openly published by now. Therefore, according to "The biology experiment teaching questionnaire", we developed a thorough examination about biology experiment teaching of 213 middle schools in Gansu Province by casual samples. We examined the basic conditions of biology experiments in Junior school, the plan and the operation of biology experiments, the arranging of the experiment technicians and the teacher's satisfy- action from the biology teaching, the experiment teaching and the whole treatment, then we compared and made research by real samples. According to methods of educational evaluating and statistics, we have carried the comprehensive and quantifiable evaluation to actuality of the biology experiment teaching. The result: The biology experiment teaching has developed greatly in present in Gansu Province, espec ially biology Lab's constructions are perfect in urban, the teacher's level is same as the all country's and so on. By comparison the urban and the rural, we think that problems exist in the following aspects:1. The big disparity of biologic experiment teaching situation is very big between rural and urban middle schools in Gansu province.2. The subject is not taken equally with other subjects of sciences, and teachers of the subject are not treated equally with teachers of other subjects.3. The educational idea of biological teachers in Gansu province still can't keep the steps with data and they also lack creative consciousness.4. Professional laboratory technician can't keep up with the work.5. There are problems in the teaching system of middle school.6. The lab and the equipment has not been sufficiently used, the biology garden can't be constructed.Analyzing the current situation in Gansu province, we consider the condition of biology experiment teaching in middle school in our province will affect the implementation of investigative style of new lesson in biology, and hinder the development of creative thinking and ability, we suggest:1.Thoroughly improve the recognition capability of biology experiment teaching significance, actively create the conditions for waging the biology experiment teaching and improving its quality.2.Completely promote the training work about the new curriculum in our province. Renew the idea, promote the professional skills and conscience of biology teachers and experiment member.3.Strengthen supervising to the biology experiment teaching, intensity the communicating, condition and demonstrating work.4.Improve laboratory conditions and better laboratory equipment in rural middle schools.5. Establish a system to train teachers and technicians so as to suit the needs of course reform in basic education.
