The experimental teaching is an important part of high school biology teaching. It is an effective way to develop students'biological science literacy. The new curriculum proposed a series of recommendations that can strengthen and improve biological experiment teaching. In Guangdong province, a new round of curriculum reform has been promoted for seven years since the autumn of 2004. So, how is the status of high school biological experiment teaching in Guangdong province? Is the implementation of experimental teaching really in accordance with the requirements of new curriculum? What problems are encountered? Whether different types of high school are significant different in hardware and software constructions of experimental teaching? And so on. So the paper designed"Questionnaire of high school biological experiment teaching in Guangdong province"as the main research tool, together with interviews and observations in the class. From five aspects, such as the laboratory infrastructure, the equipment of laboratory assistants, biological teachers'understanding of experimental teaching, biological teachers'behaviors in the experimental teaching, schools' attention to biological experiment teaching. The paper surveyed biological experiment teaching in 91 schools in 22 regions in Guangdong province. Author analyzed the difference of biological experiment teaching of model high schools in province and in city, ordinary high schools in urban and rural areas.The survey results show that the biology education of high school is moving forward rapidly and steadily in Guangdong province. The level of biological experiment teaching, teaching conditions and teachers construction have greatly improved. The experimental literacy of biology teachers has increased. Biological teachers can understand experimental teaching idea correctly, change evaluation methods and standards gradually. Students are more interested in experimental teaching. Students'experimental capacity increased, and so on. But there are still some problems: (1) The experimental teaching conditions of different schools are significant different; (2) There is general lack of laboratory funding; (3) The professional structure of laboratory assistants is irrational; (4) Some teachers lack understanding of experimental teaching and feel unsuited under the new curriculum reform; (5) Biology teachers'behaviors in the experimental teaching are non-standard. They seldom attention to students before or after the experiments. Their roles are not accurate so that students'initiative and enthusiasm are not fully during the experiment. They lack of reflective consciousness and professional responsibility. (6) Some schools pay little attention to new curriculum biological experiment teaching. The arrangement of experimental class is unreasonable. The rate of carrying out the students'experiments is low. The opportunities for teachers to attend training about experiment are fewer, and so on.To above-mentioned problems,the paper makes the following recommendations: Firstly, biology teachers should renew the ideas and change the roles, develop the spirit of love and dedication. Teachers in ordinary school in rural areas should carry out experimental teaching by local conditions and simple facilities, improving the rate of experiments. Secondly, school leaders at all levels should arrange experimental course scientifically and rationally, let laboratories open and combine experimental teaching with practice. They also should emphasize and strengthen the cultivation of young biology teachers. Finally, the relevant functional departments of education should improve the understanding of the experimental teaching function and pay attention to experimental teaching. They should increase laboratory funding for ordinary schools in rural areas and narrow the gap between urban and rural areas, increase training opportunities and improve teacher's adaptability. They also should adjust professional structure of laboratory assistants and strengthen the team construction.The paper grasps the information of experimental teaching status of Guangdong province comprehensively after the new curriculum. It analyzes existing problems and discovers the gap between new curriculum. It makes targeted suggestions so that arouse more educational experts, educators and biological teachers pay attention to experimental teaching. Author hope the paper that advances the reform of high school biological experiment teaching in Guangdong province and lets it adapt to the requirements of the new period better. The investigation also offers the reference for biological experiment teaching reform of other province at the same time.
