Beggar group is an ancient kind of group style. It exists in all societies from developing countries to developed countries. The size of Chinese beggar group once diminished and it even vanished in some areas. But after the Chinese reform and opening-up policy, the restriction to social mobility was weakened. And with the fast urbanization, the number of beggar group member is increased again. The beggar group's various kinds of social activity have led negative influence to society. The citizens also paid more attention to the social fact. As the Chinese transition in an acceleration period, the urban beggar group in macro social change backgrounds is certain to have difference with historical beggar group in social features, social reasons and social influence. So the study on the urban beggar group in transitional era has certain theoretical and realistic significance.The thesis consists of six chapters. Chapter one systematically summarized the previous studies' conclusions and introduced the research methods, creativeness and significance of the study. According to the previous social survey and historical data chapter two described the construction, the living conditions and the group styles of beggar group in Chinese transitional era. Chapter three described and analyzed the features of beggar group in transitional era. It included the simultaneity of beggar group and peasant-workers mobility; the regionality of beggar group; the occupationalization, organizationalization and the simplification of begging behavior; the income of begging per month. Chapter four analyzed the increase of the social vulnerable groups, the rich and the poor gap between the urban and the rural, the value system's change in transitional era, the metropolity of cities. They all had influence on the emergence and development of the beggar group. Chapter five analyzed the beggar group's begging behaviors and living habits negative influence to society since their long existence in cities. Chapter six summarized the historical and foreign countermeasures and made suggestions to the new countermeasures for beggar group in Chinese transitional era.
