Kwang Ya Academy is one famous academy of the Late Qing Dynasty. It had experienced the old and new changes of academy, high school, and modern high school. Its evolution reveals the stations of the high school education of the Late Qing Dynasty and in the same time it had its own characters. In this paper, I select the evolution of Kwang Ya Academy during the Late Qing Dynasty. I will analyze the evolution of the academy's system, using of textbooks, then, discuss the reasons why Kwang Ya Academy can't translate to modern university. There are two important questions being discussed in this paper. Firstly, the using of textbooks in the Late Qing Dynasty when the famous academies translated to modern high school. At that time, the high schools' textbooks and tests were written by the teachers themselves. They^didn't have any united standard and quality examine, so that its contents were interwoven high and low, old and new. The school's selection might decide the schools' translation orientation. Secondly, the famous academies of the Late Qing Dynasty were generally translated to modern universities in The Republic of China, but why Kwang Ya Academy couldn't and just was translated to a famous local middle school. Excluding the objected element: innovating education systems, Kwang Ya Academy's experiences at the Late Qing Dynasty also revealed its development orientation. This paper will mainly analyze its courses reformation, students' fluxion, and governors' effects to find the truths.This paper mainly study, as one of high school, Kwang Ya Academy's evaluating in the late Qing dynasty. The intention of this paper is by studying this individual example to make the high school education institutions in late Qing dynasty much clearer. And discusses the general and individual situations and reasons of local high school education changed from tradition to modern.
