Supervisor: Professor Liu Yong-gong.This paper summarizes the procedures and major findings of the studies on institutional capacity and training effects of farmers' training system in four pilot counties in Jiangsu, Hunan, Yunnan and Gansu where the Ministry of Agriculture launched Young Farmers' Technical Training Program. During the studies, questionnaire and interviews were adopted for collecting data, the researcher systematically analyzed the implementation, effect and influencing factors of the farmer training. The results as follows:1. According to the statistics results of the data collected by questionnaires, the young farmer's training program made relatively significant contribution to improving household agricultural net income.2. Comparison of four counties statistical results indicated that the farmer training made contribution to improving household agricultural net income in all the regions. However, the increase of agricultural income has no significant correlation with regional economic growth level.3. Comparison of different industries showed that different industries have different training effects. Training for Higher value added industry brought more benefit.4. Training made contribution to improving community organization level and improving farmer's capacity of applying technology5. Farmer's education level, training method, exterior condition like local policy and so on has great impacts on training effect.According to the findings of the research, some policy recommendations were made.
