The problem of laid-off works and the re-employment has been the topical subject focused by the public since the mid of 1990s. People of different subjects have done many researches on this problem in their own ways. This paper wants to analyze the problem from the social capital angle, which based on positive investigation.First of all, I did some researches on the laid-off workers' social capital and its effects on their re-employment. Social capital is the social relationship network that can bring actors convenience and the total amount resources that can be used through the social relationship network. There are three indexes can measure the social capital, they are the network size, the network density and the network resources that set in the network. In this research it was found that when the laid-off workers' network size become bigger, the network density lower and the network resources richer they could get more opportunities to be re-employed. And this can also help the laid-off workers find more satisfying jobs, which make them engage in it longer, get higher salary and help them move up to a unit with better conditions. I also find that the social capital affects little on looking for more reputable jobs.Then I studied the social capital and its effects on re-employment when the laid-off workers use it to apply for a job. I found that: (1) Most of laid-off workers used the social network when applying for a job. The proportion of looking for job by this way surpassed higher than applying labor market or government's arrangement. Nevertheless the social network doesn't obviously affect their getting opportunities to be re-employed. The laid-off workers have high degree of satisfaction of their new job found by this way while their salary and occupational reputation in the new job maybe lower. (2) It is more important to get substantial help than to get information in looking for jobs. Because such help makes the laid-off workers get jobs of better quality.
