| The period when one is in middle school, adolescence, is crucial in one's life. It is the period when one tries to play all kinds of roles and achieve role identity. But the anomie caused by the social transformation has become a great obstacle which holds up the role identity and even causes role conflict. .In such a social context and the shift of education reform from macroscopic to microcosmic, some interpretation of junior middle school students' role are obtained by employing the qualitative research method and on the basis of the large quantity of material. The methods of gathering the material include interviews, questionnaires and observations.The interpretations are as follows:1. The junior middle school students' self-consciousness. The conclusion is drawn through three aspects: evaluation by others, the ideal of what one should be, and self-evaluation.2. The junior middle school students' understanding of self-role. It is discussed from four aspects: roles, rights, duties and behavior model.3. Coping with the problem of adolescence. Adolescence is discussed from both the students' and the teachers' point of view in order to make clear the influence of characteristics of adolescence on students' awareness of self-role.4. Uniqueness of an individual, self-description by a junior middle school student. Based on the junior middle school students' understanding of self-role, someprinciples, approaches and strategies are put forward to carry through the role-orientation education.1. Self-cultivation. Students are unique and full of potential. They learn actively and positively.2. Satisfy students' various needs. The various roles students play result in various needs. Education should meet students' reasonable needs.3. Cultivation of moral attitude in real life. Students' role awareness and ability to play various roles are cultivated through the interaction with each other. So role orientation education should be carried through the interaction in real life.4. Appropriate role evaluation system. Evaluation about role awareness has a direct influence on the cultivation of it. So the appropriate role evaluation system is essential to help students cultivate positive and healthy role awareness.The aim of role orientation education is to cultivate the positive and healthy role perception of students and make them succeed in their lives. |
