The Study On Role-orientation Of Counselors In University

College counselor is not an inevitable outcome derived from social development of human beings, but a special product under a specified historical period. Jiangnan Xiang, the President of Tsinghua University, was the first to carry out this system, which senior students undertook the counselors of junior ones. In this period, counselors played the role of political guide. They didn’t instruct students’though and care about students’life.With the development of times, the role of counselors changed. They became the ones that instruct ideological and political education of students. Although the counselor system was interrupted in the Cultural Revolution, with the convening of the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee and the restoration of College Entrance Examination System, the system of college counselors was also restored. Through the baptism of multiple values, the connation of counselors’roles has been gradually enriched. They do not only conduct ideological and political education, but also apply psychological counseling and life services. However, in the face of different roles, the scope of counselors’work has been expanded infinitely. Under this situation, they feel exhausted and lost in great masses of work. At the same time, they can not gain recognition from different social sectors.Based on this condition, the author thinks about the roles of counselors and hope to solve the difficulties they have to face at present.The article includes six chapters.Chapter1mainly focuses on the significance, value, thought, and methods of research. Literature review and definition of core concept are also included.Chapter2and3presents the development skeleton of the connotation of the counselors’role and the role-orientation of different sectors for counselors. The writer interviews some counselors and college students and finds some differences:counselors always regard the guide of ideological and political education as their main task and they hope to be the instructors of students’career palnning; while students expect counselors to be their friends but not only the workers of ideological and political education. Therefore, faced with these differences and conflicts, the writer discusses in details in the third chapter.Chapter4reviews the results of the investigation and analyzes the reasons of this conflict. The role conflict of counselors is maily expressed in two forms:conflict between the core roles and conflict between the core role and the minor role. In order to solve these problems with concrete methods as well as under big policy environment, among these conflicts, the writer attempts to find the reasons at all levels.In Chapter5, based on the above research, the writer tries to find a suitable method to construct the role-orientation of counselors to satisfy the expectation of different sectors and the demands of counselors.Chaper6concludes the mentioned problems, research process, reseach result and unsolved problems and put forward the writer’s direction of further research.Through the study, it is expected to answer the core question of this article, that is, what is role-orientation of counselors?...
