The Task - based instruction is the teaching theories put forward to by foreign language teaching method researchers and the second language acquisition researchers according to the large quantity of studies and practice in the 1980's. It has emerged to challenge the traditional form-based methodology. It regards completing the concrete task as the motive, displaying the task result is to show the result of the teaching. For years now Task-based Teaching has had a significant effect on language teaching. Language experts and foreign language educators all think consistently that using the Task-based Teaching in the classroom is very important, the national New Standard for English curriculum promotes definitely the Task-based Teaching, after the teachers' instruction, it requires to improve the students' ability in complex language application. Recent years students' hearing and speaking has greatly improved, but their writing ability is still very weak. Chinese teachers find it very difficult to teach composition.In Introduction, the thesis first analyses the importance of English writing and the writing problems in China's middle school, then states the reasons. In Chapter One, the thesis expounds task definition, task components, task designing principles and designing steps. Our English teaching can benefit from these theories. In Chapter Two, it expresses the author's opinion on how to use Task-based Teaching to teach students' writing. Examination shows it is efficient. In Chapter Three, it tells us how to control task complexity, task sequencing and task authenticity, and how to evaluation students. At last the writer emphasizes Task-based Teaching in middle school insist on training students' skills of language application, developing study category, promoting students to create and improve their practical ability.
