Research On The Relationship Between Mental Health Of College Students And Their Parent Rearing Styles

Recent years, there are increasing phenomena of mental and behavioral abnormality for college students because of mental problems. Many factors may influence the mental health of college students, and the parenting style takes a very important role in it. This paper takes the in-school undergraduates as research object to discover their mental health conditions at present, and try to find the influence of the parenting style on it as well as to provide gist for consultation and treatment to the problem, at the same time, try to assist the parents to find appropriate ways that can improve college students' mental health status.By stratified sampling, the paper investigated 373 students in Dalian University of Technology, Dalian University of Maritime and Northeast University of Finance and Economics;the paper use Chinese version of SCL-90 and EMBU scales to test the relationship between parenting styles and mental health conditions of undergraduates, and use analysis of correlation and analysis of regression to analyses the outcome.The researching results suggest that: the mental health condition of college students is not so good;the checkout rate of middle level is 13.1%. There are significant differences between different sexes, and less significant differences among different grades and majors. The parenting styles between male and female undergraduates, singleton and non-singleton are significant difference. The parenting style of college students is an important influencing factor of their mental health, and different parenting styles bring out different influences. Among parenting style, emotional warmth is positive and rejection, over involvement, punishment, strictness and favoring subject are negative one, which has bad effect on children's mental health;parents' preference has no significant influence to college students' mental health. Comparatively, the mother's "punishment and strictness", "emotional warmth "and the father's "overprotection" have more important influence on children's mental health than the other dimensions.
