The term of"Educational Technology"comes from America. With the development of inventions and application of various new technologies and also with the deepening of educational theory and practice, the level of understanding towards educational technology in America has been improving since the early 20th century.The application of the modern educational technology to practical education has a history of 20 years in China. However, the process of application is always out of order. The combination of information technology and geography teaching is full of vitality. The characteristic of the subject of geography itself has the characteristics of long time span, too wide space span. It guides geography teaching not only macroscopically, wholly and concerning the ancient but also microcosmically, partially and concerning the future, with a wide scope of time and space. The designs can fully bring the functions and advantages of teaching media into play. This technique can help throw light on the abstract content, complicated variation process and subtle structures, which can be hardly presented by words or graphs and hardly understood by students. Those are realized by means of animated imitation, partial magnification and process presentation. The goal of students-centered independent study and cooperation can also be achieved by taking the advantage of resources from the internet.The following thesis is based on the investigation aimed at analyzing present situation of the combination of information technology and geography teaching in middle schools. The content of the text book for senior high school is also classified and analyzed. The thesis focuses on the strategies in major fields which need the application of information technique in order to improve the disadvantages of traditional teaching's not being able to construct geographical and spatial concept, to present the geographical objects in their original size and shape, to present a long time evolution of an geographical object or to build models of geographical phenomena.
