Ideals and convictions are the spiritual pillars for a nation's survival, development and vitalization. It is also the concentrative representation of people's correct viewpoint towards world, life, and values. At present, the ideal and conviction education can be defined as follows:the basic theory of the Party and fundamental course education, to construct the conviction education with China's socialistic unique characteristics and finally achieve the ideal education of communism.The fundamental contents of the ideal and conviction education of the university students:to cultivate the truth understanding of university students towards Marxism and communism of the theoretical education;to reinforce the understanding of the theoretical education of China's socialism with Chinese features. The basic principles of the ideal and conviction education of Chinese university students,In order to strengthen the ideal and conviction education, we must combine the modernization with focalization;we must insist the unity of principle part and social part.;we must use well the level principle.;we must combine the theory and the practice;we must insist the unity of long term strategy and short term ones.The ideal and conviction education faces a great challenge in modern times. The primary factors which contribute to this phenomenon are as follows: the characteristics of modern Chinese university students, the social environment of our country, the ideological influence from the capitalism of western countries and the development of socialistic market economy and science. All these factors mentioned above may have a negative impact on the beliefs of university students towards Marxism, socialism and communism.The advocate of reinforcing the ideal and conviction education of Chinese university students is a re-realization and reasonable construction of ideals and conviction of Marxism and Communism, which go well with the development of the times. We are required to accomplish the followings: to reinforce the important theories such Marxism, Leninism, Mao Zedong's thoughts, Deng Xiaoping's theory as well as the"three representatives"; to strengthen the methodology education of Marxism philosophy; to strengthen the education of social practice; to reinforce the education on internet and campus culture.
