Reforming and opening-up contributes to very critical transformation in China. In social transformation, social structure renewal brings with it the differentiation and rearrangement of interest relationship, collides with the original social relations, and thus causes social changes in various aspects. Tremendous changes can be witnessed in the aspects ranging from economy, politics, culture to people's way of thinking, living styles, and ethical axiology. Transformation in economy and politics will surely bring about the transformation in culture, while people's ethical axiology is at the core of ideological culture, therefore it is no doubt that people's ethical axiology will experience its transformation as well.In the future, world competition is in its essence the competition of talents. While talent cultivation depends on education, which followingly will produce intelligence capital. Whether education can achieve success or not is eventually reliant on teachers, the principal part of education. Young college teachers would become the principal part of the education in the 21st century, who shoulder up the historical responsibilities of cultivating advanced talents for our socialist modernization construction. Their ethical axiology has an important bearing on the fate of our socialist modernization drive and on our nation's fate and prosperity. Therefore , it is of great realistic significance for China's transformation in this new century towards modernization to explore the status quo of young college teachers' ethical axiology, to dissect its characteristics and future developing tendency, and then in ethical axiological shift to search for a new (progressive, scientific and rational) ethical axiological system which can also represent modern time spirit.This thesis, from the angle of axiology, based on dialectical materialism and historical materialism, adhering to the consistency of theory, history and reality, makes a relatively systematical exploration of young college teachers' ethical axiology and its construction during this social transformation period. It adopts the methods of the combination of theory and reality, cause and effect analysis, macro-research and micro-research, material analysis and value analysis, systematical analysis and environmental analysis, and history and reality. Generally speaking, the whole thesis is consisted of three parts.The first part is concerned with the connotation and significance of the research on young college teachers' ethical axiology and the corresponding construction. It consists of the following three aspects. Firstly, it defines from a theoretical angle some basic related concepts, such as young college teachers' ethical axiology, young college teachers' ethical axiological construction, and so on. The thesis holds that young college teachers' ethical axiology refers to the sum of the internal criteria that young college teachers hold in judging whether the action contains ethical value, and ethical value goals, inclinations, principles and standards. College teachers' ethicalaxiological construction refers to the scientific ethical concepts that is designed by colleges or universities, and is provided to young college teachers as a referable ethical foundation. It is fit for socialist market economy, in correspondence to the current lawsystem, and in continuance with elite traditional culture. The design of the ethical foundation is after the requirements of our socialist ethical construction; it combines college reforming and developing strategies in the new era and the characteristics of young college teachers' ethical axiology; and it abides by the law of its formation and developing. Besides, from this starting point, this paper inspects and analyzes the primary characteristics and social functions of college teachers' ethical axiology. As it is maintained in the thesis, the primary characteristics of their ethical axiology are of high standards, high requirements, efficient exemplariness and tremendous profound influence. And its social functions are to regulate young college teachers' behaviors, to influence the formation of their students' axiology and to facilitate the increase of our nation's ethical levels. At the end of this part, the significance of the construction is expounded.The second part is concerned with the status quo analysis on young college teachers' ethical axiology in social transformation. It consists of the following aspects. Firstly, a detailed analysis is made on the characteristics of the era that young college teachers are currently confronted with. As the thesis points out, the characteristics are that science and technology have demonstrated a rapid development, that economic globalization has become an inevitable tendency, that our society is exhibiting a developing tendency of diversification, and that higher education reform and developing appeals for the support of quality-oriented education. The following passage points out that social transformation will surely give rise to the transmutation of young college teachers' ethical axiology. Afterwards, in the paper the transmutative process is examined. The thesis divides the process into six periods: ?The 1950s displayed the communist ethical axiology, which reinforced selfishlessness and devotion. ?The years from 1957 to 1966 witnessed an illusory ethical axiology, which had a loose contact with reality. ?Normal ethical axiology was ruined during the period of the "Cultural Revolution" from 1966 to 1976. ?The late 1970s and early 1980s experienced a reflection on ethical axiology. ?The middle and late 1980s witnessed the conflict of polyadic value concept. ?From the late 1980s to the early 1990s, ethical axiology lost its normal standards; since the middle and late 1990s, it was renovated and integrated again. Following the analysis of the transmutative process of young college teachers' ethical axiology, the characteristics of this process are explained. The transmutation exhibits departmentalism, from social-oriented departualism to individual-oriented departualism, but with the same reinforcement; ethical axiological orientation altered from the determinacy of monism to the coexistence of pluralism; its pursue and goals changed from idealism to realism; its judging standards changed from idealism to practicalism; its inclination changed from a single one to a diverse tendency. Apart from these, the thesis explores the origin contributing to this transmutation. There are various factors, but the major ones are as follows: market economy serves as the dynamic of the transmutation, the surge of the western culture serves as the catalytic agent, the social atmosphere is the major cause, the incomplete social administrative organism is the critical reason, and the ideological immaturity is its subjective factor. At the end of this part, the thesis appeals for a scientific understanding of this ethical axiological transmutation.The third part is concerned with the construction of young college teachers' ethical axiology in the new century. It consists of the following aspects. First of all, the thesis explains the guiding thought on the construction of young college teachers' ethical axiology in the new century. The following passage covers the basic principles and the core content, which are essential to its construction. The final aspect deals with the preliminary approaches to and policies of this issue. The thesis holds the viewpoint that in the new era young teachers in higher schools should adhere to the guide of modern China's Marxism, and the basic principles of the combination of monadic-value orientation and polyadic-value orientation, collective interests and individual interests, the same emphasis on interests and ethical value, the inheritance and creation, the advancedness and broadness. Besides, the criteria of the "Three Favorables"(whether it promotes the growth of the productive forces in a socialist society, increases the overall strength of the socialist state and raises the people's living standards) should be adopted as young college teachers' ethical axiological standards, the motto "Serve the people wholeheartedly" should be considered as the core in their ethical axiology, honesty and sincerity should be viewed as the emphasis of their professional ethical axiology, and the full and free development should be perceived as the final goal in this axiological system. Finally provided are some feasible methods and policies of the corresponding construction, illustrated as follows: ?to adopt a scientific ethical axiological educating method and construct a brand-new model of young college teachers' axiological system in conformity with the development of our time; ?to enhance the corresponding atmosphere construction and create an excellent social ethical atmosphere suitable for construction of young college teachers' ethical axiological construction; (g) to reinforce the institution construction and form a virtuous cycle for their axiological construction.
