During the recent thirty years, especially since the 1980s topics about teacher professional development have been the hot topic at home and abroad. And the research results have emerged enormously, which has currently become a new special research field.In the early 21st century, the problem of teacher professional development is greatly concerned with China basic education curriculum reformation gradually being popularized. And curriculum reformation offers opportunities to teacher professional development. Exploring the current situation and the countermeasures of teacher professional development in the context of new curriculum is of great value theoretically and practically.This thesis first establishes the connotation of teacher professional development and senior middle school English teachers' professional development and then the significant of the research in this problem.And the second part of the thesis is to analyze the challenges on teaching theory and concept, teaching methods, teachers' intelligence and ability structure, character change , which the senior middle school English teachers are faced with in the context of new curriculum.According to the investigations and study, the third part tries toshow the current situation and analyze the causes of current senior middle school English teachers' professional development ,which provides convincingly demonstrate for how to promote the senior middle school English teachers to voluntarily develop their professional level.In the fourth part, the author first gives the basic principles and then the main ways to promote the teachers' professional development, in consideration of the schools and senior middle school English teachers. From the view point of professional consciousness and professional skill, the last part emphatically point out the choices of tactics of promoting the teachers' professional development. The following are the main views:To treat the assessment to the teachers' development as the point of contact, making the senior middle school English teachers know of the characters of themselves correctlyTo develop the English teaching cases, building the resource center for English teachers' professional developmentTo advocate "dialogues" teaching, promoting the English teachers' professional development in teachingTo carry out research English teachingTo encourage co-operative study and teaching reflectionTo joint the modern information technology to English teaching, improving the technological base of senior middle school English teachers' voluntary professional developmentThe author probed the challenge, current situation and countermeasures, which the senior middle school English teachers are faced with in the context of new curriculum by using the paper research and investigation research approaches. This thesis stresses the internal change and requires the senior middle school English teachers to be responsible for their own professional development conscientiously in order to gain continuous promotion and perfection by means of building up their teaching life in the new curriculum reformation .Since the research of teacher professional development has just started in home and we still haven't obtained enough experience on this point, this research adjusts theoretical research ways, prepared for the next research in practice.
