Teacher professional development has been the core issue of teacher education research in China since the 1990 s.With the development of new curriculum reform,the country has the higher requirements for middle school English teachers.As the facilitators and practitioners of curriculum reform,the quality of teachers has become one of the key factors for success of the new curriculum reform.Thus,the issue of junior middle school English teachers' professional development has taken on extra immediately.It has been proved that some effective methods to improve the senior middle school teacher's development include the following: mastery of learning and teaching education theory,improvement of professionalism aptitude,cultivation of reflection on teaching,implementation of carrying out the teaching action research,establishment of the portfolio of teacher development,etc.The paper mainly consists of five parts: introduction,literature review,the research techniques,survey and research findings,some strategies developed therefrom and conclusion.Through the overall review of teachers' education,this paper discusses the contents of English teachers' professional development in senior high schools and the development methods.To know more about English teachers' actual professional ethics,professional quality,understanding of professionalism and status of their professional development,this research is based on a small-scale questionnaire targeting English teachers of senior high schools in Zengcheng District,Guangzhou,Guangdong Province.The main existing problems and influencing factors are then analyzed.Finally,recommendations are made to the Zengcheng district government,relevant departments in charge of education as well as schools on the enhancement of local high school English teachers' professional development.The purpose of this article is to help the city's junior middle school English teachers' professional development by providing the theoretical and practical basis.The author hopes that this study can help teachers engage in high school English teaching with the guidance of a higher level of theoretical insight and finally contribute to the improvement of the overall level of professionalism of local English teachers.
