In the period of middle school, an individual develops rapidly in all aspects. It is a period in which an individual grows from juvenility to maturity. The state of an individual's mental health may affect and even decide his adulthood life. The level of the student's self-concept and the kind of coping styles the students adopt are directly related to their mental health. So, it is significant to study middle school student'self-concept, coping style and the affection to the students'mental health.Based on overviews of former research, the Coping Style Scale complied by Huangxiting, the Middle School Student'Mental Health Scale complied by Wangjisheng and the Tennessee Self-concept Scale are used, 815 middle school students were investigated to explore the self-concept, coping style and the affection to the students'mental health. The results show:(1)In general, the students possess the positive self-concept and coping style, but represent low-grade in the mental health problem. The major problems are study pressure, imbalanced mood and maladjustment.(2)On the total self-concept ,gender doesn't make any significant difference. But there exist significant difference on the aspect of physical self-concept, moral-ethical self, personal self, self criticism, self satisfaction. With the exception of self-satisfaction and social-self, there exist significant difference between grades .(3)On the coping style, there is significant difference in abreaction and seeking help between gender. There is significant difference in solving problem, abreaction, fantasy and seeking help between grades.(4)On the total mental health, gender doesn't make any significant difference. But there exist significant difference in study pressure, dumps and anxiety. And there exist significant difference between grades. The situation of the senior students in Grade Three is the worst.(5)In general, the more positive self-concept the middle school students possess, the more positive coping style they will adopt, and the situation of their mental health will be better. Contrarily,the more passive self-concept the middle school students possess, the more passive coping style they will adopt, and the situation of their mental health will be worse.(6)Middle school students'self-concept can predict the coping style, especially can predict problem solving, abreaction and fantasy.(7)Middle school students'self-concept can predict mental health effectively.
