Xia Mianzun was a famous Chinese educator during the first half of 20 century. He was an editor, a translator and a writer at the same time. His life was accompanied with modern Chinese culture from beginning to being mature. During those forty years as he was working in the Chinese cultural field, he built his own humanism educational ideas and he practiced in teaching, editing, translating and writing. This thesis starts from the forming of his ideas and further to study the media he edited, the book he translated and the composition he wrote. We will see the ideas of his humanistic way of education.This thesis will be divided into three parts.The first part will be explored from Xia Mianzun's educational aim, further analyse the forming reasons of his ideology and inspect his achievements of humanistic education.The second part will analyse Xia Mianzun's books of Chinese learning. On the base of this analysis, this part will inspect Xia's ideal mode of teaching Chinese language&literature.This thesis will mention the conception of Writing in the third part. Discuss the relationship between Xia's writing and teaching, further enquire into the influences which Xia Mianzun brought to modern Chinese literature.In the concluding part, this thesis will value the historical significance of Xia Mianzun's cultural undertakings.
