The professional development of teachers, one of the important topics widely concerned in recent years, is considered as the base of educational reform and development as well as the key factor in the improvement of education quality. The research on the professional development of teachers is a late one internationally.In the research of the topic, the methods of reference research, survey, interview, comparison and theory are used, along with a technological route of "reference -theory - hypothesis - experimenting, proving - new theory - practice". At first, this essay attempts to state the problems and analyze the causes on the professional development of the junior English teachers in the rural areas, based on the questionnaires and the interviews with the junior English teachers in the countryside of Da Li prefecture, Yunnan. Then the author develops the strategies after the survey of the professional development among the junior English teachers. Finally, this essay tells the approaches and methods of the professional development of the teachers practically.There are four parts in the article. In the first part, some concepts are given and the functions of the research are stated. Then the author concludes the achievements received home and abroad, and also expresses the approaches and methods. In the second part, the author explains the collections of questionnaires and the interviews done in Da Li. In the third part, the author suggests dividing the professional development of teachers into five stages—exploring stage, adjustment stage, growth and mature stage, diversification stage, and exit stage; and establishing a dimensional mode of the development in five steps as well. He advises to form a model of development in a way of self-development, cooperation and training; and in the following the author emphasizes in the four aspects the details of the professional development of the junior English teachers, and measures needed, too.
