The 21st century is an information age with wider contact and intercourse among people. Friendly intercourse and close cooperation have become the new theme of education of this age and their benefits are becoming more and more obvious. This characteristic requires every member of the society to be able to communicate well orally. Only in this way, they can cooperate well with others, and thus be ready to meet the challenges of life. Oral communication, characterized by its close links with society and our everyday life, and by being immediate and long-term, accompanies people for their whole lifetime. Nowadays, it's a trend worldwide to stress the importance of oral communication teaching. Naturally, it is now an important part in our middle school Chinese teaching to help students improve their ability of oral communication.In the new curriculum standards, listening and speaking practice is replaced by oral communication, which is an important measure in the reform of Chinese teaching. Oral communication teaching put more stress on encouraging students to use their own initiative in study and in this way removes the drawbacks of traditional teaching. However, for many reasons, we are not to be too optimistic about its effects in practice. Two factors contribute to this situation. First, the main concern of students and also teachers is whether the students are able to enter schools of higher learning. Secondly, necessary teaching methodology and resources are in short supply.At present,the following work should be done to improve the teaching situation of oral communication.Firstly,it is needed to make the characters of oral communication clearly,understand the basic ideas and theories so as toregulate the teaching behavior better during the practice.Secondly,it is needed to realize the optimization of oral communication,with an eye to settle the high efficiency of teaching tasks and the rationality of the time spending between teacher and student,choose and carry out the best teaching project under specific conditions in terms of teaching rules and principles in order to obtain better result possibly.The contents of optimization include teaching target,teaching material and evaluating system.finally,it is needed to encourage the students to exercise in real life consciously besides class-time and then attach importance to the big social class to bring up the ability of oral communications.This text is a summary of oral communication teaching and it also urges the society to pay more attention to this new form of curricula so that it may be able to help students improve their ability of oral communication. And also it is my hope that it will be of use to other teachers and educators.
