Oral communication ability is a kind of quick-witted ability of listening and speaking presented in the process of communication among people. It is not only a kind of language ability, but also an ability of communicating and handling affairs and a kind of ability to test a man whether he can keep up with the times. The 21st century is an information age, so the contacting among people becomes wider and communicating becomes more frequent. Friendly intercourse and intimate cooperation has become the new theme of education in the 21st century. Our society increasingly shows a feature that benefits are brought by highly efficient communication. This feature demands that every social member who wants to live and develop have good oral communicating ability. Paying much attention to the teaching of oral communication has become the tendency for many countries in the world. Therefore, the author holds that it is necessary to collect articles related to the oral communication teaching in the recent two decades to instruct our oral communication teaching practice.First, the paper makes an explanation of the definition of spoken language, oral communication and oral communication teaching and also makes an introduction to the development of oral communication teaching and the structure of the paper. Second, the paper summarizes the achievements of the research on the Chinese oral communication teaching in middle schools in recent decades. The achievements include following aspects: the idea of oral communication teaching is up-to-date; the oral communication teaching has been put into the teaching material construction; both the training and planning are in order; varied forms of oral communication training methods have been explored and summarized; the discussion of the theory about the oral communication and techniques has shown some initial effect. The paper also makes an investigation into the training methods like the combination of scattered training and centralized training, the combination of special training and comprehensive one, the combination of in-class training and extra-class training, and practicality has been testified. Then, the paper summarizes the shortcomings in the research on the Chinese oral communication teaching in middle schools in recent decades, i.e. lacking professional oral communication teaching material and training contents, concrete situations in the training of oral communication and the mechanism to exam oral communication ability. In addition, the paper puts forward the enlightenments and reflection on the Chinese oral communication teaching in middle schools in recent decades, including following aspects: to reconstruct the concept of oral communication, to design its content according to the characteristics of students; to make"creating situation"in the oral communication into practice; to design various forms of standards to exam the oral communication according to the oral communication. Finally, the paper makes an assumption of the future oral communication teaching, i.e. the position of oral communication teaching will further strengthen and form its own independent system, systemized and scientific oral communication teaching material will appear; the teaching methods will become more modernized.The research is the recognitions and analysis of the new course, oral communication and the summary and sublimation of teaching practice.
