On the threshold of the new century, various tendencies having been in their booms, such as the economical globalization, the political multiplicity, educational internationalization and so on. The development of the world has imposed much higher demands on education. Universities, which have played most important roles in the education of a society, are deeply associated with the fate of a country and a nation. With the prosperity of the construction of our modernization and the approaching of the generalization of the higher education, the Chinese education has been faced with a greatest opportunities over all years before;however, it also has to meet a more fierce challenge due to the establishment and gradual betterments of our socialist marketing-policy and the cute competition of educational resource owing to the internationalization of higher education.The British famous educator Eric Ashby has said that a university is an organization of culture with the characters of a living creature, which stores, propagates and enriches the culture of human beings. And it also evolutes forward like the other creatures. So every kind of university is the product of genetics and environment. Thus, it can be said that the organization of a university is a living creature, which has the same characters of developmental traces like the other creatures, namely, birth, childhood, grown-up and decline. Alike the other social organizations, the development of a university are under the influence of the outer environment and its own tradition. The alteration of its outside surroundings and social requirements will cause the change of its organizational structure and tradition sooner or later and which will also bring to the change of its administrative ideas. Follow this logic clue, the thesis will focus on the exploration on the lifecycle of a university from the perspective of the theory of corporate lifecycles.The thesis totally contains four chapters. The first chapter is the introduction of the study. In this chapter, the writer means to make a clear statement of the value of his study from both the theoretical and practicalsides through the illustration of the cause, the object and the methodology of his study. The author has viewed that to apply the study of the corporate lifecycles to the study of lifecycle of a university can not only promote the expanding of the object and the realm of the study of the university but also be helpful for the people to understand the organization of a university more deeply;moreover, it can also promote the development of our university in a much better and healthier way. The second chapter is mainly deal with the study of every period of corporate lifecycles .In this chapter, the author presents the definition, application of the lifecycle and its application and development in corporation. The third chapter is the focus of the thesis paper. Its chief content is on the analysis on the features like qualities, functions, structure and so on of a university as an organization and makes an analysis on the phenomena of the lifecycles of a university as an organization from the perspective of the developmental periods, so as to find out its problems and the way out. The last chapter of the thesis is a summary of the study above. The author offers a conclusion from the contrast of the lifecycles between a university and corporation and some constructive advises for the promotion of the aliveness the universities and their better futures.
