The institution is an extremely important dimension through which the complicated phenomenon of school education is penetrated. The new institutionalism theory provides us with an unique field of vision for observing the change of school institution. Under this field of vision, the change of school institution is a process and also a result of joint interaction of political, economical and cultural domains etc., and its essence is just the redistribution and adjustment of power and interest. Therefore, the school institution can't be discussed without concrete historical and cultural tradition and current social background. The interaction of official and unofficial institutions disciplines commonly people's behavior in the process of forming school education order. The disciplining of much behavior, which includes the generating of official institution and its functioning, is relied on the support of unofficial institution. The change of school institution, which is a gradual process, has the feature of path dependence due to initial institution choice and the influence of unofficial institution in the long run. The main type of the change of school institution, either induced or mandatory, either gradual or radical, has much to do with power centering and sharing of state administrative system and reform tactics. The initial institution choice must be cautiously treated when reforming and innovating our school institution. We should take full consideration of historical cultural factors as well as current state situation, correctly treat people's different interest appealing, letting official and unofficial institutions encourage and tolerate each other.
