Entering the 21st century, the educational community is facing various opportunities as well as challenges. Physics, as the essential ingredient of it, is the fundament of science and modern technology.Physics in junior middle school, as a required course, covers the contents of classic physics. It includes mechanics, calorifics, acoustics, electrics, optics and atomic physics. Physics in senior middle school is based on that in junior middle school, only with the content more advanced. Thus the junior students' physics learning ability will affect the further study in this field. Because of all mentioned above, this paper, employing theories from Constructivism and educational psychology, combined with the analysis of physics textbooks and National Standard for physics Curriculum in junior middle school, tries to collect the author's near-20-year physics-teaching experiences in junior middle school and analyze them to indicate that it's necessary and feasible to motivate the junior students to study physics with interest and joy and foster their physics learning ability.This paper consists of three parts:Part one expounds the research background, the concept and characteristics of physics learning ability and relationship between knowledge and competence.Based on the theories of teaching and studying from Constructivism, Part two introduces the relationship between the interest-fostering and physics learning ability as well as the theories referring to teaching and grasping concepts and laws of physics. At the same time, it also put forward some essential principles of teaching so as to improve students' physics learning ability.Part three researches into some cases of training students' physics learning ability. It also suggests some practical concrete measures to raise students' interests in physics learning, to train them how to observe physical phenomena, to improve their experimental ability and their thinking and to enable them self- study.
