According to situational cognitive theories, knowledge exists in the activities of the individual and community. It comes into being in the new situation where individuals participate and consult. Just like the development of language, the development of knowledge and ability takes place in the real activities in which knowledge is made use of. Classroom teaching provides multidimensional angles of view for us. In order to help the students learn in real situations, teachers should create appropriate situations: real life learning situations, highly lifelike substitutes of real life learning situations, situations created through video and multimedia and so on. The great power of the computer can make us be able to create a kind of learning situation, in which students can practice listening, speaking, reading and writing.In recent years, a lot of English teachers have tried many good teaching methods, which of course include the multimedia teaching so as to optimize the classroom teaching, to make the children get away from the "the dummy English" and to apply what they have learned in class about English to real life. In this article, some achievements of researchers in China and abroad are referred to. Multimedia is tried to combine with English teaching in the primary school to carry on the study as a new teaching model.This article is divided into seven parts: Part 1 puts forward the topic, the purpose ,the importance of the research and the research methodology; Part 2 illustrates the essential theories: constructural theories, humanism theories and situational cognitive theories; Part 3 explains multimedia and primary school English teaching, mainly explaining the concepts, characteristics and the relation between the multimedia and the primary school English teaching; Part 4 is mainly about the design and making of the multimedia courseware for English teaching in the primary school as well as the sorting of the teaching materials; Part 5 discusses the practice for the multimedia teaching, mainly explaining how multimedia will help create the classroom atmosphere of teaching and learning and how to optimize the English teaching and learning in the primary school; In Part 6, the author rethinks the multimedia teaching of the primary school English and draws a conclusion of the differences between multimedia teaching and old traditional...
