Career Guidance In Secondary Technical Vocational School-Its Status Quo And Solutions

Being a crucial part of the vocational education endeavor in a secondary vocational technical school (SVTS), on-campus career guidance facilitates those SVTS students in their smooth transition to the real society, individual achievement and social contribution or social progress at large. The aim of career guidance in a SVTS is to inform its students with technical know-how and the features of their future career so as to equip themselves with professional knowledge, skills and expertise to better serve the society when they graduate. By drawing on a resource of international diachronic perspectives of career guidance and an analysis of China's on-campus career guidance practice, this thesis writing takes a practical approach and highlights an attempt to offer some constructive advice on improving and upgrading SVTS career guidance in mainland China.The whole thesis writing altogether comprises of the following four parts: 1. stating the research topic, its significance and research methods applied, offering a clear definition of career guidance; 2. while reviewing the advent and evolution of career guidance at home and abroad, focusing chiefly on the U.S.A., the U.K. and Japan with an analysis of their shared features in their career guidance development; 3. pointing to the existing problems with China's SVTS career guidance practice in terms of pedagogy, its impracticality, administrative and organizational deficiency and teacher development inertia; 4. highlighting concrete measures to tackle the SVTS career guidance problems; specifically: upgrading pedagogy, stressing the principle of practicality and efficiency, providing due individualized career guidance and finally forging the career guidance trinity of "society-school-family" for those SVTS student candidates to better equip them for future social service.
