The regression of mathematics instruction to life rises as a developmental tendency of mathematics course reform among the worldwide. Emphasizing the connection between mathematics instruction and students'lives has become as an important aspect of mathematics curriculum reform on compulsory education in China presently. The enforcement of"Mathe -matics Curriculum Standards on Compulsory Education of Full-time (experimental edition)"in 2001 made mathematics instruction contact with life seriously and embodied life notion on lots of occasions. It also emphasized the life, the student learner's role and the development of students'mathematics potentials in their lives, all these conceptions provide broad space for the implement of life-orientation of mathematics instruction.This thesis analyses the life-orientation of mathematics instruction from three perspective: current situation and tendency of"Regression To Life"of mathematics education reform in the world, thoughts on the comparison of mathematics achievement of high and primary school students in China and other countries, and problems of implementation of life-orientati -on instruction of mathematics curriculum reform on compulsory education in China.Then it looks back the history of study on life-orientation in China and abroad ,and next it defines what life-orientation of mathematics instruction is. After that, the thesis elaborates theoretical basis combining with Ideology of"Realism"by Freudenthal,Theory of"Education is Life"by Dewey and Theory of"Life is Education"by Tao Xingzhi. On the basis of all these researches, three points are proposed with reference to the strategies and approaches of life-orientation of mathematics instruction. First one is constructing life-orientation instruction resources. Second one is learning mathematics in lives. Third one is extending classroom instruction to extracurricular activities and experiencing life through inquiry learning. The mini-experiment tests and verifies life-orientation of mathematics instruction could help to enhance students'abilities, strengthen their ideas of innovating, foster their interest in mathematics and improve their performance in mathematics examinations. Two questions concerning with the life-orien -tation instruction illustrated at last.
