In recent years, life education has been launched in quite a few primary and middle schools in China. There are, however, a number of problems in the aspect of its value orientation, affecting its educational effect directly or indirectly. The thesis is based on the narrow sense of life education, i.e. in the name of "life education", and the educational activities, related to life, which are carried out by means of specialized courses or activities. The thesis analyzes the status quo and the problems of value orientations of life education in primary and middle schools, and proposes the "should-be" value orientation and the corresponding implementation strategies.The first part of the thesis, on the basis of absorbing the relevant research results on life education at home and abroad, and of analyzing the current situation of value orientations in life education at primary and middle schools, generalizes the two problems among value orientations in present life education, singleness and alienation, which respectively manifest as moralization, survivalization, being better educated, and utilitarianization.The second part of the thesis analyzes the establishment basis, principles and representations of the "should-be" value orientation of life education. The establishment of the "should-be" value orientation is influenced by such factors as the values and the needs of the subject of life education, the current circumstances, the characteristics of life, and value orientations of education. Then the part summarizes the principles of the "should-be" value orientation:the combination of diversity and identity, the affiliation of regularity and purposiveness, and non-utilitarianization. Based on the above analysis, this part arrives at the conclusion that the manifestations of the "should-be" value orientation of life education should be the integration of both material and spiritual value orientations.In line with the principle of putting people first, the third part of the thesis puts forward the countermeasures for the realization of the "should-be" value orientation of life education from both concept level and practice level. The concept level is involved in developing the regulating role of value guidance towards value orientations, and turning value spontaneity into value consciousness. The practice level is to optimize the conditions of the objectification of subject in life education.
