| These days, due to the increasing enrollment of high schools and universities, vocational schools are facing the challenge for existence and even survival. This immediately affects the quality of new students in vocational colleges and the gap in readiness to learn in one class between the "top" and "bottom" students have further widen, so the individual difference in learning is evident. But in our teaching, the teacher tends to deliver his course according to the same teaching plan, evaluate the students according to the same standard, which leads to the fact that some of the students could not "digest" what has been taught while others still feel "hungry" for more knowledge. (Some students feel the course easy while others feel difficult.) It is hard for teachers to ensure the good teaching quality. Under the circumstances, graded teaching is being tried in many higher vocational colleges in China. This paper traces the history of graded teaching and studies the ways of graded teaching in higher vocational colleges that have already been implemented and points out its advantages and disadvantages. Based at WuZhong Vocational and Technical College, the paper studies the graded teaching practice by questionnaire and interviews with the students, and lays the emphasis on the advantage and disadvantage of graded teaching. It also studies and analyses the effect of the graded teaching. It is found in the paper that, on one hand, the graded teaching in WuZhong Vocational and Technical College has some positive effects. But on the other hand, it has brought us some issues, which need to be concerned in future. The graded teaching is useful to meet different needs of the students, improve the students learning performance, and promote the research among teachers. But at the same time, it also bring some defects like lack of role models, more pressure in study, lower self-confidence and self-pride for our students.
