At present, education system of middle schools in China only emphases the practical utility, laying particular stress on teaching students how to survive , but ignoring the meaning and aim of life. Naturally, children growing up in such an environment are very shrewd in the aspect of surviving means, but are ignorant of the meaning and aim of life. This will inevitably cause students to belittle their own lives and to be indifferent to others'. School education means more than imparting knowledge to students; what is more important is to develop their wholesome mentality, fine moral characters and optimistic and positive attitude toward life and study, and to make them dare to face frustration, difficulty and failure. Only through carrying out to the students the moral education of caring and cherishing life, can we help them grasp the essence of life and motivate them to persistently pursue their happy ideals and aims. In this dissertation, the author tries to survey the current situation of life education in China and proposes the countermeasures to solve the existing problems, hoping to offer some useful reference basis for this cause.The dissertation consists of eight parts. Part I is the survey of the current situation of life education at home and abroad. Part II is the discussion of the significance and value of life education from the point of view of society, school education and teenagers. Part III is the elaboration of philosophical understanding of life at home and abroad, that is , profound philosophical basis provides possibilities for life education research. Part IV is about research content of life education. Western philosophers'understanding of life is extracted along the line of history , on the basis of which the connotation and contents of life education are discussed. In part V the ways to implement life education are discussed. Part VI is about the reflections on evaluating the effects of implementing life education. Part VII is about the analysis of survey of secondary schools students'knowledge of caring and cherishing life , attitude toward it and life experience. 300 students in grade One in Middle Schools in Nanning city, Guangxi are involved in this survey.
