Mathematical communication has become one of the main themes in today's mathematics education research. The important role it plays in helping students learn mathematics has been widely recognized. It is also the case in China. There are quite a few research papers on this topic. However, there is not much work on how to implement it in mathematics classroom, which may be the main cause for the undesirable situation of mathematical communication in mathematics classrooms. In this thesis, we shall not only look into the importance of mathematical communication in the teaching and learning of mathematics in high schools but also make some suggestions on how to implement it in classrooms.In the thesis, we shall first discuss why we should emphasize mathematical communication in schools. We then review the state-of-the-art literature in mathematical communication. We shall also point out the educational value of mathematical communication. We did a survey to investigate how it is in today's high schools. Finally we give some suggestions on how to implement it in classrooms.
