Entering the new century, the teacher education increasingly tends to be more hierarchical, open and professional. Recently, in the process of reform and development of Chinese teacher education, some normal universities have become integrated and teacher education more professional. This means the deconstruction of the traditional system of teacher education and brings a question whether teacher education should keep its orientation or reset it for these traditional normal universities in the process of integration and specialization. Obviously, it is necessary for any traditional normal university to probe this question. Taking Southwest University as a case, this paper discusses the question of orientation of teacher education in comprehensive Southwest University by some analytic methods such as literature searches , historical studies and interviews.Firstly, the paper analyzes exact connotation of some basic concepts like of normal education, teacher education, orientation, orientation of teacher education goal. The conclusion is that the goal orientation of teacher education in Southwest University means that under the guidance of certain theory, make sure the new developing direction and the talent level of teacher education in Southwest University on the basis of objective analyses on the world and domestic teacher education development and on the historical and current teacher education conditions of Southwest University. Meanwhile, it provides the theoretic basis for orientation of teacher education goal and studies the theories of teacher professionalization and system theory and the real background.Secondly, through studying the enlightenments from the university orientation and on the basis of systematical and scientific analyses on the content of teacher education orientation, we suggest that the content of goal orientation of Southwest University includes orientation of service receptors, of teaching capacities and training goals. Connecting the historical and the current situation of Southwest University, according to the enlightenment that orientation of college development gained from the theory of teacher professional development and the theory of systematic science, besides, consulting the idea about college developing goat in both foreign and domestic normal colleges, especially the device of development orientation for teacher education in domestic normal colleges, the teacher education goal has been reoriented as: nativism—that means to root in southwest area, face china and concern the world; High level—to become the first class in china, to lead the trend of teacher education in western china and become an advantage and feature of Southwest University; Elitism—to train new type of teachers for primary and middle school and make them have solid basic knowledge, research ability, practice capacity, creativity, idea of sustainable development of specialty, healthy bodies and souls.Finally, this paper shows some manipulable strategies in order to realize the goal orientation of the teacher education in Southwest University, which are mainly as follows: 1. Strengthen the realistic research on orientation of the teacher education; 2. Establish a scientific management system for teacher education; 3.Build multiple models for teachers' training; 4.Create a course system for teacher education; 5. Strengthen the team management of teacher education. With these measures, we hope to build a protective system for teacher education which will be systematic, secure and efficient.
