Students'evaluation of teaching is the course of systematically gathering teacher'steaching performances in classes through questionnaire survey, and judgeing whether theteaching meets the students'needs and the aims of the teaching quality.At present, students'evaluation of teaching has become one of the major methods aboutthe evaluation of teaching quality. Large numbers of researches show that students'evaluationgenerally can reflect teaching quality effectively in higher education. But with the work ofteaching evaluation goes in-depth and its results'being used extensively, people began todoubt whether the outcome of students'evaluation of teaching can be objective and impartialin evaluating teaching in classes, and reflect the real quality of teaching. Thus theeffectiveness of students'evaluation of teaching is drawing more and more people's concernand attention. Although there are many researches on students'evaluation of teaching, thespecialized study on factors affecting the results of the students'evaluation of teaching canhardly be found in China.Taking 840 teachers and students in three universities in Hunan province as objects, andgathering data through questionnaire survey, this research probes into various factors affectingthe effectiveness of the results of the students'evaluation of teaching from both subjectiveand objective aspects, including the attitude of evaluating, erroneous psychology, the degreeof teachers'strict requirements on students, harmonious relationship between teachers andstudents,the evaluating indexes,the characteristics of the subjects and teaching environment,the approaches of evaluating and ways dealing with results, and so on. In the research, I findthat all the factors above can lead to deviations from scientific outcome of students'evaluationof teaching to some extent.A series of fundmental measures can be taken to improve the students'evaluation ofteaching. (1)Good publicity and instruction should be given before the evaluation of teachingin order to build up right ideals and attitudes about teaching evaluation. (2) To strengthen the managing mechanism. (3) To design scientific evaluating indexes. (4) To ensure objective,scientific, resonable statistical data. (5) To fully and effectively use the evaluating results topromote teaching.
