A Research On The Comparison With NVQs Between China And Britain

Britain is the cradle for the first industry revolution, and has been famed as "the world factory" , due to the various causes the vocational education in Britain developed very slowly and lagged behind the other countries, but since British government established the National Vocational Qualification System (NVQs) in the 1980's, its vocational education has gradually become the model of its kind in the world. By comparison, the NVQs in China is fledging and in great need of the guide of advanced theories involved and learning and absorbing the advanced experiences from the other countries. So it is significant in theory and practice to further compare the system of NVQ between in China and Britain.This paper bears three parts. Firstly the concepts, such as vacation and vacation qualification, are analyzed, social functions of the system of NVQ has been dealt with, and the vicissitude of the system of NVQ in. both countries is briefly elaborated. Secondly, from the view of middle scope, comparison is conducted in the managing structure and the levels and standard structure of NVQs, the procedure of the testing evaluating and qualification guaranteeing of NVQs between the two countries. Finally, considering the present status of the system of NVQ in China, the following suggestions are given to improve it by borrowing the experience from Britain: Adjust the system and function of the managing institute of NVQ so that a unified framework of NVQ can be established; Speed up the revision and development of the vacation standards so that the competence oriented system of the vacation standards can be improved; Reform the technology and methods of the testing of NVQ so that equal attention can be laid on both the vocational education and academic education and interchange between them can be practiced; Complete the quality controlling system of NVQ so that NVQ can be more recognized socially and be more high qualified.
