Teachers and students are two elements of education and instruction in university. The relationship between teachers and students is the most basic and important embodiment of interpersonal relation in the process of education and instruction. The teacher-student relationship is a special interpersonal relation, which established and formed in the process of education and instruction because of their differences in status, role, and criterion behavior, by the mutual influence and effect of teachers and students.Domestic and overseas researchers have thought much of the influence of interpersonal relation (especially the teacher-student relationship) at learning. And the researchers have emphasized the necessity of establishing a good relationship between teachers and students. A good relationship between teachers and students is an important factor in mobilizing the students' enthusiasm of learning. And an uptight relationship between teachers and students will restrain, even destroy the students' interest of learning, and sequentially restrict the motivation to learn. The motivation to learn is the mental processes which arouse learning activities, keep learning activities, and incline the activities to the aims which teachers set. This study investigated the teacher-student relationship and motivation to learn of college students in the way of inventory. The instruments include Inventory of Teacher-student Relationship and Study Process Questionnaire. 480 questionnaires were put out, and 453 valid questionnaires return, therefore the rate of validation is 94.4%.The main purposes of this study are to: (1) find out the general status of college students' teacher-student relationship, and the differences between different gender, different major, and different grade; (2) find out the general status of college students' motivation to learn, and the differences between different gender, different major, and different grade; (3) find out the relationships among every dimensionality of teacher-student relationship and motivation to learn.By way of statistic analysis, the results as follows:(1) The score on the dimensionality of conflict of teacher-student relationship is the highest, while those on the dimensionalities of friendliness, support, and satisfaction are lower.(2) The status of teacher-student relationship is different in different group subjects, such as different gender, different major, different grade, and so on.(3) The main motivation to learn for college student is deep motivation, the second one is surface motivation, and the last one is achievement motivation.(4) The status of college student's motivation to learn is not different in different gender, but different in different major and different grade.(5) The correlations of the negative dimensionality of teacher-student relationship (conflict) and every dimensionality of motivation to learn are observably negative. The correlations of the positive dimensionalities of teacher-student relationship (friendliness, support, satisfaction) and every dimensionality of motivation to learn are observably positive or not significant.
