Career has a great impact on people's life in two aspects: socially speaking, career represents people's position in the society, in other words, career is one's social identity recognized by other people; individually speaking, people achieve their self-realization in the way of pursuing their career life. For the fresh graduates, to choose suitable occupation is of great importance especially in the developed regions like the southeast of China where plenty of opportunities and fierce competition coexist. Generally speaking, both subjective and objective elements work in the decision making. Although the objective elements are out of one's control, the personal emotions such as cognition, reception and faith influence the career selection in a way. This article mainly analyzes the relation between the sense of self-efficacy, sense of work values and the occupation selection of the postgraduate of 2007 in Guangzhou, and how the two elements influence the selection.The sense of self-efficacy is one's conscience of his capacity of accomplishing certain assignments or his faith and confidence of his ability. The sense of work values is people's measurement of the importance of the work, which is the reflection of one's self-positioning in society. There are different ways of defining a career and this article defines by the nature of the occupation. In other words, it is to study information of the enterprises which are popular among the postgraduates. After careful studies and analysis of the statistic, the conclusion is drawn as below: 1.In spite of the difference of gender, specialization, social background and working experience, the postgraduates of Guangzhou show a high self-estimation of self-efficacy. 2.The difference of the specialization of the postgraduates determines sense of work values more than the other elements such as gender, social background and working experience. 3.Different specialization results in different occupations selected while other elements has almost no influence. 4.There exists a tight relation among the sense of self-efficacy, the sense of work values and the occupation selected.
