On The Construction Of The College Counselor Team

Our government has recently paid special attention to the college students'ideological and political educations. The counselors, as the major backbone, being the instructor and conductor of the college students'healthy grow-up, have increasingly received more and more attentions. To strengthen the construction of the counselor team, it would be very important for us to enhance the reformation, development and stability of the college high education, and to implementing the governmental policies. The construction of the college counselor team has been put on the agenda of our leaders. However, because of various reasons, there are existing many problems regarding the management policy, the personnel structure, and the training methods of the college counselor team. This thesis starts with the history of the counselor team policy development: its occurrence background and status. And then, referring to research results from various specialists in the literature, with special reference to the status of the counselor team of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the author tries to find out the roots of present existing problems. Finally, by the aid of those international advanced experiences of the student affair management, the methods in solving the problems have been proposed.This thesis includes the following six chapters.Chapter 1 briefly elaborates the influence of the present national and international status on the high education. This chapter then introduces the significance of this study, the status of national and international studies, and finally the content of thesis and the method of this study.Chapter 2 presents an overview of the Chinese college counselor system's history, development process and current status. This chapter also points out the existing problems regarding the construction of the counselor team, and analyzes their reasons in depth.Chapter 3 presents an overview of the origin, evolution, and development of the students'affairs management in the UK and USA.Chapter 4 proposes the countermeasures and suggestions for the construction of Chinese college counsellor team in three aspects: the management of counsellor team, the ideological education of college students, and the selection of counsellor leader.In Chapter 5, with special reference to Shanghai Jiao Tong University, two different survey questionnaires regarding the students and their counselors are designed to carry out the survey, respectively. Those real data are collected to analyze the problems occurring in the construction of the counselor team. Some suggestions are proposed for solving those problems.Chapter 6 is Conclusion, in which summarizes the whole thesis and also points out the direction of future studies.
