In the 1930 s,the Commercial Press published a series of music textbooks with rich contents and extraordinary quality.These music textbooks have had a profound influence on ordinary music education in primary and secondary schools of that time.Some music works that were included in these textbooks,such as Huang Zi's "Busuanzi(Song of Divination)" and "Nanxiangzi(Song of the Southern Country)",are still hailed as classics and sung.Using data analysis method,this thesis analyzes the standards of the music curriculum for primary and secondary schools promulgated in the 1930 s so as to understand the basis for the compilation of these textbooks,and analyzes three aspects of its contents,namely,music theory,songs included,and music appreciation,as well as their standard for material selection and arrangement of materials.The thesis also studies the deep connotation and social-historical significance of these music textbooks and reflects on the music curriculum for general schools in the 1930 s.The original intention of the Commercial Press to publish these primary and secondary school music textbooks in the 1930 s was to “revive” the development of the Commercial Press,and at the same time,to create a new world for the general music education in modern China.As these music textbooks for primary and secondary schools are rich in content,they have far-reaching educational significance and social influence.They have made certain progress in the dissemination of modern advanced music culture in China,the popularization of aesthetic education ideas,the inheritance of Chinese traditional culture,and patriotic education.The contribution of its historical value cannot be underestimated.
