Adult education in regular higher education institutions is an impartment part of higher education in our country, and has brought up numbers of outstanding people with ability in the past decades. But along with the social economic development of our country and the change of demand for people with ability, the traditional managing mode of adult education is facing with further challenges, its input and output efficiency is also paid more attentions. It has become a problem of adapting adult education to the social development which need to be solved urgently, which includes: improving adult education's input and output efficiency, establishing the managing mode of adult education, bringing up more and better outstanding people with ability.This dissertation regards adult education in regular higher education institutions as investigative object, bases on the development and character of adult higher education, accords to the theory of Data Envelopment Analysis, analyzes adult education's input and, output efficiency and finds the actual problems, then applies the SWOT analysis method to analyze the strengths and threats,opportunities and weakness synthetically that adult higher education is facing, brings forward relevant countermeasures finally.The results of the analyses indicated that adult education in regular higher education institutions develops very fast since the establishment of the People's Republic of China. The input of money and fixed asset from the national financial institution increases every year, but the amount of the input is far less than the number of the examinees, and the number of the teachers reduces every year, the quality of teaching can't be ensured. In the later 1990s, influenced by the scale of recruit students and the new method of teaching in the IE era, the adult education in regular higher education institutions develops very slowly. So the adult education in regular higher education institutions should based on the brand of the school, and exerts its characteristic of agility, to find a new way for itself to survive and develop.The important innovations of this dissertation: 1) in recently years, the dissertations about higher education's input and output efficiency are not a few, but no one research adult education in regular higher education institutions' input and output efficiency, this is the innovation of research direction.2) this dissertation applies quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis to research adult education in regular higher education institutions' input and output efficiency, breaks through the localization of qualitative analysis of adult education, this is the innovation of research method.
