As the era of knowledge-based economy is coming, accelerating the popularization of higher education has become the top priority of China's education. To build a cultural confident country, the desire for high-quality talents is becoming more urgent.Nowadays, the scale of higher education in China is gradually expanding. It can be seen that the work of popularizing higher education has achieved initial results, but relatively, some problems and drawbacks have also emerged.Among them, the most serious problem is that the efficiency of university education is not high, and the allocation of educational resources is unreasonable. In order to deeply explore the status quo of China's higher education development,to improve the efficiency of running a university, and rationally optimize the resource allocation, this paper uses comprehensive evaluation and analysis methods to study the efficiency of education input and output of domestic universities as the starting point, considering the difficulty of obtaining data, the cross-sectional data of the 51 universities directly under the Ministry of Education in 2016 was selected for the research.Firstly, this paper constructs an evaluation index system of education input-output efficiency, and then uses the comprehensive evaluation method to carry out research on sample population and classification samples around the index system. The comprehensive evaluation method consists of principal component analysis and data envelopment analysis. This paper uses principal component analysis to construct the education input scoring model and the educational output scoring model, and finally calculates the educational input and output efficiency scores and rankings. This paper uses CCR model and BCC model to perform DEA validity judgment, and performs projection analysis on non-DEA effective universities, and then uses the ultra-efficient DEA model and the improved cross-efficiency DEA model to measure the education input and output efficiency. The corresponding rankings are obtained, and the final comprehensive ranking is obtained based on the above three rankings. Finally, the sample population has also been classified. This paper has a comprehensive understanding of the utilization rate of education resources of 51 universities after research. In this study,32 universities are DEA effective, accounting for62.75% of the total.Firstly, the results show that the efficiency of education input and output is not directly related to the absolute amount of educational input or educational output. It is not scientifically enough to assess the school's school-running efficiency with absolute quantity.Secondly,it is known that DEA-effective colleges have higher input-output efficiency, and the efficiency of universities judged as invalid DEA is less than 1,and the problem of redundant or insufficient output both appeared: high-investment colleges and universities have not received corresponding high output, which means that the investment is redundant. For such colleges, the investment can be reduced in moderation; In some universities, the output of education is low, that means the output is insufficient.Such universities should optimize resource allocation to achieve higher output.Thirdly, the ranking of college education input-output efficiency derived from the comprehensive evaluation method is more comprehensive and objective than the results which basic on the single-method evaluation or the absolute-quantity ranking;Fourthly, the results of classification evaluation indicate the current development of college education in China is balanced, there is no significant difference between“double-class”universities and“ non-double-class ” universities, comprehensive universities and science colleges, and universities in the eastern, central and western regions. It is hoped that the efficiency of education input and output of universities in China can be further improved, and the efficiency of running schools can be gradually improved.
