On The Current Situation Of And Development Strategies For PE In The Middle Schools On The Township Level In Huangshan City

In this article, the writer, through data analysis and on-the-spot investigation, carries out a thorgugh study into the current situation of PE teaching staff, auricular as well as extracurricular physical education, PE education funds, playground and other teaching equipment and supplies in the middle schools on the Township level in Huangshan. First ,the current situation of PE teaching staff :more younger teachers are being brought to the teaching posts ;full-time PE teachers are far from enough the ratio of male and female teachers is not balanced ;the teachers have a heavy work load ;they lag behind when it comes to the conferment of academic titles due to their comparatively low academic degree ;the get lower welfare benefits than those teaching other subjects; full-time PE teachers have a low capacity for scientific research work. Second, the current situation of PE teaching .About one third of all the middle schools on the township level are able to arrange their teaching activities in accordance with the syllabus of Health and Physical Education ;PE teachers' teaching plan and lesson plan are not well prepared ;the percentage of the teachers who teach according to the teaching plan and lesson plan is not high enough, with only two thirds of them teaching regularly .All the middle schools under discussion are able to give PE courses while theoretic course is not paid due attention .The students are graded mainly according to their classroom performance, attendance, achievement result and the extra of progress .Their regular teaching method is still that of a traditional one .Third, the current situation of extracurricular physical education .While all the middle schools do well in the setting-up excercises during the break , extracurricular sports activities are far form being satisfactory ;even in the schools where these activities are carried out, only 62.34% of them are in a disorganized state ;the students' attitudes towards extracurricular physical training ;most of the schools are able to hold a comprehensive sports meeting annually featuring track and field events .All in all, the middle schools on the Township level in Huangshan give a poor performance when it comes to extracurricular sports activities .Fourth, the current situation of PE educational funds, playground and other teaching equipment and supplies. These middle schools are totally lacking in educational funds ;the average annual fund for each student in suburban middle schools is higher than that in the middle schools in remote areas; the educational funds are mainly raised by the schools themselves ;only a small portion of the playground and other equipment and supplies in these schools are able to meet the standard.On the basis of the result of the survey, the writer puts foward several proposals :First, the governments at all levels should increase investment in physical education, try to raise money through various channels and make greater efforts to improve PE teaching condition .Second, we should get rid of the old notions and be open-mind .we should attach much more importance to diverse forms of extracurricular sports activities .Get more students involved in these activities. Cultivate students' interest and improve their physical quality comprehensively; Third, hold meetings to exchange experience in self-made equipment and supplies ;encourage the teachers to take the initiative and improve the quality of PE classes. Fourth, the PE teachers programme should be managed scientifically to ensure the number, quality and balance of PE teachers.
