In August,2002,the Educational Department issued"The Guiding Outline for Physical Education Teaching in Average Colleges Nationwide". The ninth item points out: to fully develop students'principal part and teachers'guiding part; to advocate opening and exploring teaching style and to expand the time and space for physical education subjects. Under the guidance of the teachers, students should have the liberty to choose learning content, teachers and time for class. And try to build an active learning environment and emphasize students'principal part in teaching.The present reform of the selective physical education subjects teaching in average colleges conforms to the requirements of"making students the principal part". The effective methods adopted in practice have got rather good effects and promote the progress of teaching reform to a certain degree. Selective basketball subject is one of the subjects that are popular and welcomed by students on present college campuses, However, there are still some problems existing in actual teaching in which students should have been the principal part. Because of the long-time influence of the old teaching thoughts, out-of-date teaching methods and inflexible teaching form, students cannot show their character; cannot get specific experience; cannot play the principal part actively or form their independent quality, together with the lack of sound teacher-student communication, which bring a negative influence on teaching effects .With literature, questionnaire, observation, statistics and logical analysis, under"the Principal Theory", this thesis deals with such questions existing in the selective physical education subjects in average colleges, as how to recognize and grasp the role of and relationship between teachers and students; How to show teachers'leadership; how to develop students'principal role and gives some suggestions about highlighting students as the principal part accordingly. Conclusions as the following:1.Selective basketball subject teaching under the guidance of"The Principal Theory"in average colleges embodies modern educational thoughts. This is an important issue in present physical education teaching reform. This teaching reform requires a correct knowledge about the inner meaning and relationship of"teacher's leadership"and"student's principal role", a clear understanding of their dialectical unity; a guidance to students'active study and a cultivation for students'awareness and ability as"the principal part".2.An investigation on selective basketball subjects in average colleges show that the knowledge about the importance of cultivating students'principal part is not enough. Although students love basketball sports, they don't have a strong sense of initiative, independence and creation.3. According to the existing problems, we use"the Principal Theory"to guide the teaching reform. First, establishing such a teaching aim as strengthening students'principal awareness, developing students'principal ability and shaping students'principal character; Second, reducing reasonably the teaching content and making it interesting, novel and integrated; In teaching method, we should adopt such forms as games and competitions to stimulate students'studying interest, provide them with a platform on which they can show themselves, guide their mutual communication and create an interactive environment for both teachers and students; lead students to self-evaluate and mutually-evaluate the learned skill, encourage them to come up with new ideas and promote their creative spirit...
