Dictionary defines harmony as the friendly and peaceful existence of related people and things. The reason for choosing this theme is because there are signs of mismanagement practices in Sabah Chinese High School, Tawau, Malaysia. These practices will affect the efficiency and effectiveness of the school. If the cause is not rectified early, a minor conflict will eventually develop into such disastrous condition that greater effort will be needed to correct it. Also if the school is run by an incompetence Board, the damages will be aggravated further.In Sabah Chinese High School, the aim of harmonious management is to design and provide a peaceful and pleasing environment for students, teachers and staffs to achieve their individual goals of educating, learning, teaching and working effectively and efficiently within the objective of the school. Besides encompassing human as its basic factor, it also emphasizes on the functionality of administrative departments and developing of learning atmosphere. The school is comprised of different individuals, societies and groups with their own characteristic, goals, demands, and habits. Under this system, people are allow to fulfill their needs, function and co-exist harmoniously, at times even with conflicts and disputes but these differences are to be thrashed out through negotiation, arbitration etc; and still work within the aspiration of the school.The study investigates into the roots of these mismanagement practices and exposes the conflicts between the Board of Management and the Principal, conflicts between Administration with teachers, students and staffs, unfriendly relation of teachers and students and so on. The study also digs into the real cause behind all these happenings and suggests the following remedies. We need to (1) re-structure the organization of the Management Board and the operation of the school, (2) provide relevant training to upgrade the quality of the Board members, the Principal, the Administrative staffs and teachers, and (3) formulate a system whereby harmonious management is fully implemented which will eliminate conflicts and provide rooms for negotiation and must be up-dated regularly. A harmonious atmosphere in the school will encourage proper functioning of the staffs and teachers, consolidates their efforts, provides an environment to explore one's potential to the fullness and cultivates enthusiastic school culture. Under the new harmonious management system, the School will become very adaptable and sensitive to its surroundings. Once there is conflict, the system will initiate self control and through negotiation and arbitration, arrives at peaceful settlement rather than confrontation. It will adapt its organizational structure and learning atmosphere with changes in the educational world. In conclusion it is only through this harmonious management system that Sabah Chinese High School will be able to exercise her best management capability and secure the full trust and continuous support from parents and the local community.
